GRIMAUD

A MEDIEVAL VILLAGE BY THE SEA

A medieval village by the sea, with a modern lakeside town at its feet, this is how Grimaud could be summed up. The village of Grimaud bears witness to a long history, which began in Gallo-Roman times.

But this long history can also be read in the streets of the village, where the old houses with mullioned windows and doors framed with black lava or serpentine, the facades decorated with bougainvilleas line the small streets and squares that are just waiting for your steps.

As for recent history, its major characteristic is Port-Grimaud where the architect François Spoérry, in 1966, undertook the realization of a visionary and ambitious project: to create a lakeside city. Today Port-Grimaud is one of the most visited places in France with its 12 km of quays lined with gardens and "fishermen's houses", where boats come to dock. A real contemporary architectural success.
